Hotel/Meals
The camp's hotel is situated just outside Vitoria on the border of the scenic Gorbeia Nature Park. This is much more convenient for training because you are quickly out of town and surrounded by ideal training routes. Each room in the hotel has two double beds, private toilet/shower, and satellite TV with complete live coverage of all major cycling races. The Euskaltel and ONCE teams periodically stay at this hotel when attending races in the area. Breakfast is a typical European continental breakfast consisting of croissants, toast, juice, and coffee. Lunch and dinner are very filling and come with two entrees, dessert, and coffee. Red table wine and bottled mineral water are also included in these meals. These meals are ideal for satisfying hungry appetites after a day of riding. Each room will be shared with another rider or your non-cycling guest if one is coming with you. Individual rooms are available on a space available basis only for an extra $24/night. Directly across the street from the hotel is a bus stop where you can catch a bus to Vitoria, San Sabastián, Bilbao, Madrid, Pamplona or virtually any other place you want to go. Transfers may be required to get to many cities. Staff Sports Physiologist Iñigo San Millán will assist in your training and help you reach your goals as a cyclist whatever they may be. Iñigo trains many professional and amateur cyclists as well as many other amateur and professional athletes. In past years, Iñigo has attended the training camps of professional Spanish cycling teams to conduct the physiological testing of their riders. He also currently works with some of the top riders from Spain and one of the biggest teams in the sport. The guide for your training rides is an experienced rider with a racing background who will take you on the best training rides in the area. Jon Spindler has 4 summers worth of cycling experience in the Basque country. He is a Category 2 racer in the US and has been riding and racing for 17 years. Erica Carlson is the 3rd member of our team that has taken up residence in the Basque country for the past 5 years. Her experience and knowledge about this area make her the perfect tour guide/interpreter/problem solver/you name it. The guides for your training rides are all experienced riders with a background in racing, they know the best rides in the area to help maximise your training. |
