The rain and clouds cleared for a memorable muddy course along the farmlands of Pierce College. Air Temps were in the mid 50's with winds from the North. The A-Men's race was fast and furious with five mud-bog sections, a water crossing and a mud covered up hill run-up. Brent Prenzlow (Celo Pacific), one of So. Cal's best crossers took an early lead. Victory was his but it wasn't easy with the hard chasing Erik Burgan (Spinergy) and cross strongman Tom Farley (Rocket Parts) nipping at his heels the whole way. The Masters 35+ Men were treated to the rare appearance of Santa Claus (Team Rocket Parts, who else?) who at the start line intimidated his fellow masters with threats of not delivering toys to the children of anyone who bests him. Jolly ol' Saint Nick covered all the attacks for the first half of the race until breaking to the pressure of the hard driving Chris Defiebre of Team Cliff Bar. Once a broken man Santa, and to the sadness of children everywhere, was passed by Celo Pacific's Doug McWhinney who after the race was accused by Santa of hooking. Doug was cleared of the allegations and given second place by race officials who will not be getting anything in their stockings this year. Santa vows vengeance and says he will be back next year saying, "Oh, I will be back. And next time, Doug McWhinney, no more Mr. Nice Guy." Another great race was in the 45+ Men were Rickey Russell (Simple Gree) led from the start but the tenacious old bull, Jonathan Livesay (Merrill Lynch) would not give up and finally caught Russell with 200 meters to the finish but could do nothing but hang on to Russell's wheel for Second.
