American Velodrome Challenge Finals

Although still a junior, Ryan Nelman (Southern Elite/Sun & Ski), dominated the speed events taking first place in the Sprints and Keirin. Nelman's 200 meter time was top seed by two-tens of a second over Canadian Ryan McKenzie and Nathan Rogut (Mercy).
McKenzie focus was on the kilometer time trial after losing in the sprint quarterfinals to Kissena's Eric Ragot. His concentration paid off as he was the only rider to go under 1:10 with a winning time of 1:09.88. McKenzie added a win in the Miss and Out as well.
Joey D'Antoni (Cycles de Oro), commanded the 4 kilometer pursuit winning the race in 5:03.01. Junior World Team member, Josh Kerkoff (Mercury), took second while Gregg Germer (ABC Aitos), just back from a season in Europe showed his form by rounding out the third place spot.
Kerhof won the 10 mile Scratch race in a fast time of 21 minutes 21 seconds breaking the track record by over a second. Kerkhof leaves for Europe this week to represent the United States in the Junior World Road Championships in October.
Mat Stephens (GCCA) Germer, and D'Antoni broke away from the field at 87 to go in the 100 lap Points Race and were rewarded 10 laps later with the lap. Jared Bunde (Kissena), took off with Chris Grusendorf (NWCC), but Chris can't hold Bunde's wheel and leaves him to solo in his attempt. After the half way point, Bunde pulls up and the field catches him. Richard Lamb (Southern Elite/Sun & Ski), Brian Walburn (Frisco), Mark Dearing (Memorial Hermann) and Germer come to the front making a dangerous foursome. The field will have none of this and respond bringing the group back into the field. Bunde takes another flyer and the field seems indifferent. His determination finally pays off as he get his lap with 18 laps to go. Almost immediately, Mark Dearing takes a flyer and gaps the group taking a break from the last sprint. Dearing goes into time trial mode and holds off the field to win the final sprint. Bunde wins with a lap and 41 points.
SprnCycle's Ryan Crane, Patrick Bartell, and Jim Russell won the South Central Regional Team Sprint competition and the right to wear the red, white, and blue championship jerseys. The all women's team of Charlotte Miller, Alane Ballweg and Cristin Walker of Memorial Hermann broke the State Track record for the Team Sprint in a time of 1:22.15
