Bicycle Racing League And Bentley Graphic Communications Madison

Lehigh Velodrome, PA, May 31, 2002

Bicycle Racing League and Madison Refuse to Be Rained Out at the Velodrome

Rain threatened to end Opening Night at the Lehigh Valley Velodrome early, but the racers fought through the clouds. The Velodrome hosted the First Union and KidsPeace Bicycle Racing League Finals and the Bentley Graphic Communications Madison on its opening night Friday, May 31.

The Bicycle Racing League is a program that introduces children 10-18 the fundamentals of track cycling. BRL participants raced well and with enthusiasm. Not even the sudden thunderstorm kept the racers from competing and receiving their hard-earned awards.

In women's racing, Becky Quinn gave an impressive performance in the Women's Miss and Out. She sped into first place, surpassing second place finisher Ashley Kimmet and Becky Conzelman, taking third. In men's racing, Jame Carney blew the competition away in the Men's Miss and Out, flying by Jeff Hopkins, in second place, and Ryan Oelkers, placing third.

The evening came to an end with the exhilarating 40-lap Madison race. An exciting tag-team event that is a thrill to see brought on some tough competition. When the race drew to a close, partners Bobby Lea and Kyle Wamsley edged out their competitors to win the race. Ryan Oelkers and Jeff Hopkins took second and partners David Cresswell and Mark Ernsting came in third.
