Introduction to Track Racing - What's a Wheelrace? - Introduction to Six Day racing - UCI codes
Results and Reports from the USAPromoters wishing to submit results should send them to cyclingnews Asheville Training Series #12French Broad River Park , September 17Wrapping It UpBy Chris Kamm Before the steady rain returned to cancel the final running of the Masters and A Grade events, we got in the early events and settled a few disputed positions. The B race was a coronation march for Thomas Burns (Nantahala Outdoor Center) who clinched the title two weeks ago. However, the Asheville Bicycle Racing Club mustered a full side in support of Blair Hobgood who stood poised to take over second for the year with one last good result. The home side did not disappoint, and Blair won two sprint laps in route to second place on the night. That turns out to be the perfect Rx, and Blair is to be congratulated for a long season well done. The Women's race, sponsored by Cane Creek Cycling Components, was the real draw on the card. Allison Hardy (Trek) and Jennifer Petosa (DeFeet) were separated by only one point after eight races. The field boasted two other prior winners in Nancy Daigler and Robin Pace (ABRC), and this proved to be the race of the evening. When it was over, the sprint points were spread through at least half the field and Allison Hardy confirmed her champion's status with a hard fought win and the season title. The Fixed Gear boys got in enough of their events to make it official. Event Coordinator George Riedesel must have had something in his drink since he swept the card and took home his first win of the year. His sudden emergence from the field to grab the Win and Out was something to see, and was followed up by a nasty performance as The Devil in the Miss and Out. Then it started raining and continued all night. Joey Coddington (Cane Creek) had already clinched both the Masters and A Race titles. Alas, T-Bone Taylor (Cane Creek) will wonder all winter if he might have pipped Darby Harris (Earth Faire) for the second place overall. Many thanks to our title sponsor, Hearns Cycling and Fitness, and our cosponsor, The Asheville Parks and Recreation Department. Additional thanks go to all our sponsors: Liberty Bicycles, Asheville Bicycle Racing Club, Cane Creek Cycling Components, Asheville Family Health Center, Dr. Steven Miller, DDS, and the Musician's Workshop. Back in 2003 for more racing under the lights. PhotographyImages by Asheville Velodrome Group
