The participants in the Air Products Finals qualified through the program, which is offered to anyone age five and older. The participants need no prior experience in order to enter the program, and it is the most popular developmental cycling program in North America. Pee Wee Pedalers, children aged 5-8, were given the spotlight as they rode around the track in an exhibition, followed by AP Finals races for boys and girls in specified age groups, competing in scratch races. The adults in the program also were given the opportunity to race, competing in 5-lap finals, with the 60-plus men competing in a 3-lap final. The racers displayed the skills they learned in the program, demonstrating the effectiveness of the 26-year-old Air Products program. Interspersed throughout the evening were exciting races for professional men and women cyclists. Jon Frederick (Bowers, PA) rode to a decisive victory in the Men's Unknown Distance race after catching the break made by Nate Rouse and Juan Jose Haedo. Winning with an all out sprint to the finish, leaving Rouse and Haedo in the dust and pumping his fist in the air in victory. The most tense and thrilling events were the Miss-and-Out races that counted for Rider of the Year points. In the men's Miss-and-Out, Gustavo Artacho (Agentina) finished well ahead of second place finisher Ryan Oelkers (Philadelphia, PA) and third place finisher Kyle Wamsley (Chadds Ford, PA.) The women's Miss-and-Out proved no less riveting as it started off the evening. 1998 World Champion Lucy Tyler (Miami, FL) proved that no chronic injury would stop her as she sped into first place, bypassing Sarah Uhl (Perkasie, PA), the Rider of the Year points leader, and Ashley Kimmet (Bethlehem, PA), this week's Rider of the Week. Family and friends stayed until the end of the night for the Air Products participants awards ceremony in which the top three finishers received medals and the first place finisher was honored with an Air Products Championship jersey.
