Risi and Lampater close in on Keisse and Bartko

After three nights of racing, Iljo Keisse and Robert Bartko have maintained their lead, but the team of Bruno Risi and Leif Lampater fought their way back onto the same lap by amassing enough points for a bonus lap. The Spanish world champions, Juan Llaneras and Isaac Galvez attacked their way onto the same lap as the leaders, and moved ahead of the previous night's third place team of Danny Stam and Peter Schep.

As the weekend approaches, and the crowds grow in size and enthusiasm, the racing starts to get more heated, and so do the tempers. Midway through the race, a bit of interference with an exchange led to some words between Peter Schep and the Slovakian team. The two have already had a tangle in Thursday's race, where DeFauw and Zabka went down, so there is no love lost between the teams.

After countless attacks, and numerous laps taken, the final sprint approached with four teams locked on the same lap. Isaac Galvez threw down a big attack coming into the final lap, chased by Risi with Bartko hot on his heels. Bartko found his legs tonight, and overhauled Risi to take out the win.

In the second Madison, Llaneras and Galvez continued their aggression, taking a lap out of Keisse/Bartko and Risi/Lampater and bringing Marvulli/Aeschbach and Villa/Hester along for the ride. The Swiss team of Franco Marvulli and Alexander Aeschbach are down two laps, but second in points with 229, so they cannot be counted out just yet. Heading into the fifth night, there are now three teams on the same lap, which will make for an exciting weekend of racing.

Under 25 heats

The final twelve teams of the under-25 race were selected on night four in races that were less about winning, and more about avoiding elimination. The German teams of Arend and Mohs in heat one, and Kalz and Kluge in heat two, had their wins sewn up, so the race was one of pride for the remaining teams. In heat one, the British pair of Burke and Bellis were determined to win a night, but had a lapse of attention and let Arends and Mohs get away to take a lap. Americans Jackie Simes and Taylor Brown made a strong attempt to take a lap and move into sixth place, but a missed exhange scuttled their chances, and they were shut out of the finals along with Schibli and Williams. The Belgian pair Mertens and Leys made a big comeback, taking the first and third sprints, and moving up into the last spot for the finals.

In the second heat, the Belgian team attacked from the gun in a desperate attempt to move themselves into the finals. They nearly took the lap, but the Germans Kalz and Kluge immediately countered, shattering the field and sending the exhausted Belgians back down a lap. The rest of the race was a flurry of attacks from the lower placed teams, all battling to make the final six. Most notably, the American team of Suhr and Luttrell put in a promising move, and gained half a lap before Kevin Suhr's tire blew in turn four, sending him tumbling down the banking, the friction burning holes in his skinsuit and his skin. The crash ended their chances to make the final. The Swiss team of Bally and Benzi raced well, and moved themselves up into third place.
