Day 3 - August 21

Bruley, Watkins Break Away to Win It

With an incredible display of power and endurance, the team of Tony Bruley and Cullen Watkins lapped the field of seven other teams and picked up first place points in Day 3 of the Nas-Track Madison Racing League's Detroit Six Day Bicycle Race.

Both Bruley and Watkins, known for their long distance endurance, used their power to wear down the sprinters and blow apart the bike race by lapping some teams twice. Still, Dave Koesel, partnered with Hans Peterson for Team Blue, surprisingly came out of the field to win the final sprint in the 25 minutes Madison Team Race. That performance gave him enough points to move into first in the overall standings.

The winners of Detroit's first Six Day Bicycle Race in more than 20 years will be the racers who accumulate the most points over the six days. Two categories of racers - As and AA's - race together but earn points separately.

Racing continues at 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 22 and Saturday, Aug. 23 and at 3 p.m. Sunday at the Velodrome at Bloomer Park in Rochester Hills, Michigan. There is no admission fee and both racers and spectators enjoy live music provided by the Nas-Track Pit Crew.
