Introduction to Track Racing - What's a Wheelrace? - Introduction to Six Day racing - UCI codes

However, he still won the evening Omnium and is the clear leader on points so far this season. It was a beautiful evening, befitting the day after the summer solstice. Jeff Frazier returned to the oval after a few weeks off and resumed command of the B Grade road bike class. The six sprint laps were awarded to a variety of riders throughout the race, but Frazier made all his efforts count and turned back Nick Rogouski and Monica Curwen (!) to maintain his lead on all riders. Likewise the A Grade race was a hotly contested event that covered 30 kilometers and 10 points laps. The principal protagonists were, as usual, Joey Coddington and Randy Parker. Those two just bested an aggressive field and Parker took the win with a half dozen other riders still in contention as the double points finale decided things. The Fixed Gear races provided the highlight of the evening. The lower division had a different winner in each of the three events and Ray von Dohlen won the Omnium on the strength of his win in the Points Race. Ray now heads the table after five weeks of racing. The upper division turned into a heavyweight bout between Blair Hobgood and Andrew Erskine. Frodo took the Scratch Race to extend his win streak to ten. And then, Andrew took it upon himself to end that run Those two hooked up at the start of the ten lap inverted Snowball Race, and went full out for the next 800 meters. The rest of the field watched from arrears as Andrew held off Blair at lap 1 and then came around for a bike throw to notch lap 2. It was a top fuel drag race for two laps, and the Kilo track record holder took all the points for himself. After that, the horses were winded, the field rejoined the front, and everyone drew a long breath as the lesser places were determined. As awful as it must have been to run that hard for nothing, Mr. Hobgood collected himself during the interval and came back to win the Points Race and the Omnium. The king still reigns and his win streak is at one. PhotographyImages by Asheville Velodrome Group
