Blair Hobgood swept his class again and has resumed his throne. The lower division of the fixed gear enthusiasts has advanced several candidates for promotion in the second half. On the road bike side of things, Randy Parker and Joey Coddington seem poised to punch it out a la 2003, and Jeff Frazier remains in control of the B Grade despite suffering his first defeat of the season. As mentioned, the young thoroughbred Jeff Frazier has been lightly raced this spring. And, he was undefeated until last Tuesday when Nick Rugouski shed the mantle of runner up. Frazier was second, and remains atop the leader board. The upper division for road bikes was thrown into chaos when points leader, Joey Coddington, missed the big move and finished out of the money. Randy Parker took full advantage of the champ's dozing and despite leading a group full of Cane Creek riders around the oval, he won the race in favor of Hearn's Cycling and Fitness, the series promoter. No less than Darby Harris, Tommy Davis, Chad Schoenauer, and Andy Applegate finished in arrears on points. The upper division of the Fixed Gear class was a very ordered affair. Frodo won all three races. Andrew Erskine finished second every time. And if not for an announcing difficulty in the Miss and Out, it might have been Nancy "The Dagger" Daigler DeLuxe Lux in the show spot all three times. As it was, those three accounted for the top three places in the overall. The best race of the night was the Miss and Out. The three up sprint on the final lap showcased side by side, door bangin', doublewide, paint tradin', everyone is about to wreck racin' through turns three and four. This time, Frodo got by the Welsh Rabbit and got his revenge. In the lower division, it was a first time visitor to the Mellowdrome who took home the honors. Adam Blumenthal, late of Florida, won two of the three events and emerged the clear winner. Season leaders Sean Young and Ray von Dohlen rounded out the podium, and surely are candidates for promotion in two weeks.
