The night was comprised of events including specific age group races for the Air Products Finals as well as a mix of sprints and endurance races for the elite riders. This Friday marked the last international race night of the season and showcased a new batch of riders preparing for next week's USCF National Track Cycling Championships. The Morning Call Rider of the Year, a combination of the Finish Line Running Store Sprint Series and the Valley Preferred Enduro Series, saw Jame Carney and Becky Conzelman at the top of the standings coming into the night. The men's 5-Mile race was tight until Bobby Lea made a strategic move during the last lap to jump ahead of the pack and take the win. Marty Nothstein attempted to bridge the gap but to no avail. The women's 1-Mile race was a surprising one as an early arrival for next week's USCF National Track Cycling Championships, Jennie Reed, battled for first and took the win with an awesome sprint over Ashley Kimmet. The Morning Call Rider of the Year, Finish Line Running Store Sprint Series and Valley Preferred Enduro Series, were handed to Jame Carney and Becky Conzelman in the men and women's competitions respectively. Carney had a convincing lead coming into the night and was expected to win. Conzelman also held a strong lead coming into the night and was able to fend off the competition set forth by last year's Morning Call Rider of the Year, Sarah Uhl, and 2000 Junior World Championship Silver Medallist, Ashley Kimmet. 2003 marks the 27th year of the Air Products Developmental Cycling Program has been held at the Lehigh Valley Velodrome. Participants qualify for the Air Products Finals through the Developmental Cycling Program. A summer of hard work paid off for those who participated in the Air Products Finals. Riders in the program competed in scratch races in their respective age categories. The Air Products program has produced cycling champions including Marty Nothstein, 2000 Olympic Gold Medallist, Sarah Uhl, 2001 Junior World Champion and Tanya Lindenmuth, 2000 Olympian. The program is also dedicated to teaching the sport of cycling to the general public and to promote the sport in a hands on manner.
