Powers the Lehigh Valley VelodromeOn a beautiful Friday evening in eastern Pennsylvania, the power was on with Tandemonium taking hold of the Lehigh Valley Velodrome. On hand were riders from around the U.S. gearing up for the National Championships two weeks away along with a host of international riders. The night began to heat up with strong early performances in the 1-mile final by Kevin Belz and Ashley Kimmet each taking their men and women's wins respectively. The men's and women's points races continued to set the night's tone with fast racing and fierce competition. In the men's event T.E.A.M. Fuji's Kyle Wamsley sped away with an excellent performance to take the win while in the women's race Becky Conzelman and Kimmet dueled the entire way with Conzelman taking the final points and the win. The final non-tandem event, the men's and women's unknown distance proved to be a true fan treat with Nate Rouse taking a very close men's event while in the women's Conzelman won convincingly. The main event for the evening, the Tandemonium! Men's and mixed competitions, started off with a time trial to seed the men's teams while the mixed tandems competed in a round robin format. It was Team Young Guns, Ben Barczewski and David Wiswell two of T-town's promising young riders setting the fastest pace with a time of 18.21 seconds followed closely by the international duo of Sebastian Alexandre (ARG) and Mike Beers (USA). In the rounds Barczewski and Wiswell crashed due to a flat tire and in the process also took down their competitors Jeremy Miller and Larry Detris. Due to the crash both teams were unable to continue, making the second heat between Beers/Alexandre and Gustavo Artacho/Juan Jose Haedo a duel for the Tandemonium! Championship. From the front position Haedo and Artacho were passed by the hard charging duo of Beers and Alexandre in turn four with Beers/Alexandre taking the win. In the mixed tandem competition the teams of Juan Jose Haedo and Veronica Martinez, Jim Alvord and Pam Fernandes, and Mike Beers and Jamie Pettinato each won one of the three round robin rounds to tie all of the teams for first place.
