At the Milan EICMA show, Colnago displayed what might be one of the more interesting bicycles available. Besides some new color schemes for the top-of-the-ine Extreme Power from the Mago di Cambiago, Signor Ernesto decided to commemorate his 50th wedding anniversary to his wife Vicenzina with a limited edition, completely hand painted model called "Forever Colnago." Only fifty will be made.

Fausto Pinarello announced big news for his Treviso, Italy, company this week as well; Cicli Pinarello has signed an exclusive agreement with Japan's Toray Industries Inc., where Cicli Pinarello will have exclusive use of Torayca® composite material for bicycle manufacturing.

Pinarello said, "We have been using Torayca carbon fibre in our bicycles for a while and for our new Montello FP8 time trial bicycle, we used a special 50HM3K aerospace grade composite that is simply incredible". The arrangement seems to allow Pinarello to sidestep some of the material shortages that manufacturers of carbon-fibre based sporting equipment have been complaining about for much of 2006.

According to Pinarello, Torayca is an excellent composite material, produced by the Japanese textile giant Toray Industries Inc., said to be the world's largest manufacturer of carbon fibre with over 30 years experience in composite material. It's the exclusive supplier of composites for the Airbus 380 and Boeing 787 Dreamliner.

Pinarello will make the new Montello pursuit bike from the company's 50HM3K aerospace grade composite, as will Caisse d'Epargne's Alejandro Valverde's Paris Carbon FP, who Pinarello told us will test a prototype next season with the ultra special composite.

As DeRosa showed off a new paint scheme for its mid-range carbon fibre Avant at the Milano show, Aqua Sapone, its sponsored pro team, had Frank Vandenbrouke racing in Italy's GP Artigiano on his new De Rosa King X-Light.

Cristiano DeRosa said, "We are happy to have a champion rider like Vandenbrouke riding on DeRosa and wish him well".

VDB may have to get a few wins under his belt again before he gets one of the DeRosa Protos superlight unidirectional carbon model.

For the iconic firm of Ugo DeRosa and his three sons, based just north of the Milano tangenziale ring road, the Milano show is always a great opportunity to welcome friends to one of Italy's most beloved bike brands. New from DeRosa is the Idol, featuring an integrated seatpost and sleek, beautiful lines of the "il marchio DI cuore" (the brand with heart).
