Bicycling Australia Show -

Melbourne, AUS, October 13-15, 2006

What women want

By Greg Johnson

Cycling fans that converged on the Bicycling Australia Show 2006 were treated to two main attractions at this year's exhibition - from October 13-15.

The first was the presence of cycling legend Eddy Merckx who was in Australia for just the second time. The five time Tour de France winner (amongst many, many other accomplishments,) was in Australia for the show to meet fans and sign autographs in a bid to promote the Eddy Merckx range of bikes. During Merckx's four-day stay, the Belgian watched the final stage of the Sun Herald Tour and even went for a ride with Victorian State Premier Steve Bracks.

The second was the first notable wave of women-specific bikes to hit Australian shores. It's not the first time Australia has seen women-specific models enter the market but never before have they formed such a presence as they did at this year's show.

As a result, you can expect women specific bikes to take centre stage in our coverage of this years show - but guys don't worry, there's some support acts to cater for you too.
