Girard Trophy
Gingins to St-Cergue, April-October, 2002
Daniel Schnider of Phonak has knocked Laurent Jalabert off the top of the ladder in the Girard Trophy, the season-long DIY time trial contest in Switzerland. Schnider took over two minutes off Jalabert's time for the 8.9km climb. Over 200 riders have now recorded times for the event, and as you can see below, there's a very wide range of riders having a go.
What's the Girard Trophy?
The Girard Trophy is, as far as we know, a unique competition in that it's a time trial that runs for 200 days! At any time from April 1 to October 17 you can obtain an entry ticket and test yourself against the local elite and pro riders on this 8.9km climb that rises 520m from Gingins to St-Cergue. You simply punch your ticket in the machine at the bottom of the hill, ride up as fast as you can and punch it again at the top, recording a time in the process.
The best 20 times will be invited to take part in a gala event at the end of the season, with 20,000 Swiss Francs in prizes.
