Jamieson wins in solo escape

The hills of the Lilydale region in Tasmania's north east put the island's top riders to the test on Saturday with world junior champion, Mark Jamieson, coming out in front.

On the third of four laps of a tough 17km circuit, Jamieson rode away on his own and steadily build up a solid lead.

Karl Menzies was the only other rider able to keep pace with Jamieson, but after bridging the gap to the TIS junior, Menzies was unable to keep pace and Jamieson rode away for a lone victory.

A tight sprint for third overall saw Matt Conn edge out Jason Bellchambers on the line with Kharne Hammersley and Jason Andersh picking up fifth and sixth.

In the Division two event, former Tour de France rider Michael Wilson came in well clear of his competition while his son Michael was just out sprinted for second by a fast finishing Wes Sulzberger.

A full programme of junior racing held earlier in the day saw Sean Oliver, Sarah Eaves and David Lyons score victories in their respective divisions.

The day of racing was well supported by the local community and looks set to be an annual inclusion on the Tasmanian racing calendar.
