Cold And Windy At Heffron Park

Report and results courtesy Tony Horneman and Helen Vella

Over 60 riders registered for the weekly cycle racing at Heffron Park on Saturday at Heffron Park.

Nine A Grade riders battled for 36km in dry, cold and windy conditions. George Pappas from the Dulwich Hill club broke away after the first lap but was caught by the bunch a few laps later. The second break was by John Kenny from the Eastern Suburbs club who stayed away for most of the second half of the race. But the King of Heffron Park - Anthony Spurgeon from Caravello, stormed home to claim first place in a time of 56min 38sec. Second place went to John Kenny followed by Brent Skippen from the Parramatta club.

A larger than usual B Grade group raced for 32km with Dale McCormack from St George club and Dave Mackey breaking away from the 16-rider bunch at different times during the race. Final placings were Phil McKnight from the Sydney first in a time of 52min followed by Sam Haeata and Dave McPherson.

Placings in the 21-rider C Grade 28km race were Tim Rice from the Sydney first in a time of 47.46, Scott McDonald and Hans Visch. D Grade 20km race was won by Richard Manners in 35.35, followed by David Jenkins-Flint and Kevin Crowie. Ten junior riders enjoyed a time trial and keenly contested scratch races.
