Results and Reports from AustraliaPromoters wishing to submit results should send them to Cyclingnews Illawarra Cycle ClubMarch 9, 2003Franklin stays away for winSteve Franklin proved his return to form to snatch a daring win in last Sunday's Caesar's Illawarra Cycle Club handicap race. After starting the race second last (block), 9 minutes behind limit rider Anna Habeck, Franklin held off fast riding scratch riders Seth Collins and Adam Rourke to take the win from Dylan Forbes and sprinter Jason Johnson. Despite overcast skies a field of 30 riders started the event. Groups were spread over 10 minutes for the two laps of the Marshal Mount course. Early leaders were the five and six minute bunches who got together by the far turn on the first lap. Almost the entire field had joined up at the far turn on the second lap. Despite some attempts to escape at the climb to the railway bridge the bunch stayed together until the run to the finish. Franklin had enough speed to hold off Forbes and Johnson for the victory. Fastest time went to Adam Rourke with 54:40. Helpers are required for sprint judging and marshalling for next weeks feature race. Meanwhile Jaclyn and John Kejda did battle over the weekend at the NSW Junior track championships held at the Dunc Grey velodrome. Jac placed second in the Under 17 years 2000 meter pursuit whilst in the scratch race just managed to hang onto 6th place after an eight lap break away. Jac also picked up 4th in the 500 metre time trial. John showed he is rapidly improving since moving up to the Under 15 years category with top ten finishes in all his events. This is the time of the year when riders are heading off back to Europe to race. Along with Brendan Cato who will be riding for the AIS under 23 team, Caesars ICC also wishes Seth Collins all the best for the upcoming European season. Seth is again based in the Basque region riding for a local team as he has for the past two years. Good luck fellas.
