Dale too good

The first race of the three race 18km time trial series was held Sunday morning in reasonably good conditions. With quite a few riders participating in the Sydney to Gong charity ride Club officials were quite pleased with the 26 rider field.

Riders set off at one minute intervals graded from the slowest expected time to the fastest expected time.

Having ridden a 35:04 in her last effort Emma Ringer set off first. But since her last time trial she has been doing a lot of training under the watchful eye of Illawarra Academy coach Michel Vermande. The training has obviously paid off with Ringer improving on her last time by a massive 2:08 in 32:56.

The last rider to set off was Luke Dale from Eurobodalla. Dale is a member of the Illawarra Academy of Sport and justified his start position by recording the fastest time on the day of 26:35.

Another big improver on their previous time was current junior under 17 Australian time trial champion Josh Wall. Wall shaved 1:17 off his previous best time to record the second fastest time on the day of 27:04. Wall is also in the Illawarra Academy of Sport.

Not to be out done by his younger counter parts, masters rider Mark Davis took 50 seconds off his previous best to record the third fastest time on the day of 28:14. Davis has benefited greatly with training assistance from Danny Hennessy, himself one of the best riders to come out of the Illawarra.

Other notable times on the day were Bethany McCarthy's good time of 31:43 and Frank Soto's, first ride this year due to numerous broken bones, time of 29:48.

Next weekends race is a criterium to be held in the Central Business Park Albion Park Rail, assembly will be in Shaban Street outside the fire extinguisher business. Riders will meet at the regular places in Wollongong at the same time as usual and ride out in a group.
