Results and Reports for July 20-26, 2002AustraliaPromoters wishing to submit results should send them to cyclingnews Maryborough CyclingJuly 21, 2002by Robyn Mcleish Gayndah Road was the venue for Saturday's forty kilometre handicap race for A, B and C grade cyclists. The front markers started twenty-three minutes ahead ofthe scratch men and strong group formed by the ten kilometre mark. All riders worked hard knowing they were in with a real chance of taking the money. By the turn around point four groups had formed, each separated by no more than a couple of minutes. The scratch riders were missing willing toilers Bruce Phersson and Marty Leahy and did not bridge the gap to the group in front of them. Chris Ihle, Mark Fielding, Steve Creed-Jacobs, Michael Wroe and Peter Munt almost caught the group ahead of them. In the closing stages Peter Munt made a move and successfully bridged the gap but it was all in vain, the winning group had crossed the line only 300mts in front and the veteran riders had shared the spoils. Winning time for Ron was 1hr 10mins. Clint Johnson recorded the fastest time of 1hr 4mins for the distance. While most riders are focused on road racing one Maryborough cyclist has had the Australian Veterans Cycling Championships in his sight for months. Last weekend Michael Wroe travelled to Nerang near the Gold Coast to contest the titles and was duly rewarded for the work he has put in with coach Ray Rodgers. In the 35-44yr group Michael placed third in the Sprint and second in the 500mtr Time Trial. Well done Michael! Racing next Sunday is Childers-Biggenden-Maryborough. Approximate time for starts are: Childers at 9am and Biggenden 11am. Barbeque and presentations at Oakhurst. Please bring a plate of sweets to share. Results1 Ron Wroe 2 Ron McKay 3 Nev Ransome 4 Hugh Humphries 5 Jim Cross.
