Results and Reports from AustraliaPromoters wishing to submit results should send them to cyclingnews Maryborough Cycling ClubAugust 10, 2002Back to the flatlandsMaryborough Cycle Club riders hit the flats this on Saturday after quite a few weeks riding the hilly Gayndah Road circuit. A, B and C grades contested a 40km handicap race on the Boonooroo-Cooloola Coast Road. The front markers had 14 minutes start on the scratch riders so it was anybody's race. Two small groups of A grade riders teamed up soon after they started and set about hunting down the front men. By the 12km mark they had caught a small pack of B grade riders and were powering ahead with Marty Leahy doing a mountain of work on the front. After the turn around point the pace increased, the bunch averaging between 46-54km/h leaving a lot of riders just hanging on the back. As the bunch turned on to Pine Mill Road the last of the groups could be seen up ahead and with only 3km to go the scratchies had them covered. In the last kilometre bikes were moving around everywhere jockeying for position, nobody keen to lead out into the wind. The move came about 400 metres out and Clint Johnson crossed first followed closely by Mark Heatherington and Brendan Ridgley. Clint also took out the fastest time for the race with a respectable 58 minutes. Bryanna Langford continued her good form by taking the flag first in the D grade event. Her winning time was 41 minutes. Racing next week is on Gayndah Road. Nominations 1.30pm. Racing starts 2.00pm. Further inquires phone 41281227. ResultsA/B/C grade combined 1 C. Johnson 2 M.
