Second stage win royale to Mitchell on Crown Range
Overnight leader holds firm

Overnight leader John Lieswyn came through today's 132km stage of the PowerNet Tour of Southland to maintain a 48 second lead with his Southland Times team strengthening their grip on the Tour. The American was seventh to the finish line on the Crown Mountain Range near Queenstown with his teammate and good friend Glen Mitchell taking the stage victory.
After his bad day yesterday, New Zealand road champion Heath Blackgrove (Zookeepers) bounced back to finish second today, just ahead of Aaron Strong (Hot Cycles). The big loser on time today was Hayden Roulston (Zookeepers), who finished just over four minutes down, dropping from his second placing to tenth.
Mitchell was pleased with his second mountain stage win: "It's not as hard as Bluff. There were three of us left at the finish and I just let them dictate the pace and left a little bit for the sprint," he told Cyclingnews.

The win brought Mitchell back up to second place overall with yet another Southland Times rider, Scott Guyton, third.
Yesterday's stage win hero Gordon McCauley again featured in the early action, but he lost his Sprint Ace jersey to American Curtis Gunn. McCauley still has a massive lead in the King of the Mountains classification and is 22 points ahead of Blackgrove.
Tomorrow morning, the riders face a 15km individual time trial and those with long memories will keep a wary eye on last year's surprise winner, Invercargill veteran John Allabaster, but a more likely winner could be under 23 leader Peter Latham (Rabobank). The Athens teams pursuit rider won the national under 23 time trial title in a time faster than that of senior champion Heath Blackgrove.
