Stage description

Start time (first team): 15:35 CEST
Finish time (last team finish): 17:30 CEST

In 2002, Vuelta organisers brought back the team time trial after a ten year absence. And as with last year, the 2003 Vuelta kicks off with the exciting team event, which is demanding for the riders and exciting for spectators. The start this year in Gijon will feature a 28km race against the clock, slightly longer than the 2002 version in Valencia, and with a third category climb to tackle in the opening half before a rolling and overall downhill finish. Two top teams of the discipline remain ONCE-Eroski and US Postal Service.
