Stage 6 - Friday July 12: Fourges-les-Eaux - Alencon, 199.5 km

By Tim Maloney, European editor

Forges-les-Eaux is a tiny town in Normandy where the primary industry is a cheesy gambling casino. F-L-E hosted a stage finish in 1997, and after the start of Stage 6 at 12:29, Le Tour will head southwest across Normandy into the green, verdant countryside of La France Profonde. With the prevailing Channel wind now coming from the right, this could turn into one of those sleeper stages, run over mostly small departmental roads that looks flat but isn't, offering many chances to get away. Stage 6 may see a rare stage win by a French rider, perhaps by Jean Delatour's local boy Laurent Brochard, always in a hurry to have his mullet trimmed to perfection near home in Le Mans.
