Stage 8 - Sunday July 14: St-Martin de Landelles - Plouay, 217.5 km

By Tim Maloney, European editor

Bastille Day's long, tough Stage 8 across bike-mad Brittany departs from a tiny village near the English Channel at noon. The longest TDF '02 stage yet will go up and down all day on yet more small departmental roads in front of huge crowds celebrating Sunday's cocorico moment. Plouay in Morbihan is the day's final destination; a certifiable centre of cycling which hosted the 2000 World Championships.
