Alessandro Petacchi (Fassa Bortolo) increased his winning streak in the third stage of the Settimana Coppi-Bartali, a 120 kilometre circuit race around Fucecchio. Petacchi picked up his third successive win in a bunch sprint, this time finishing in front of Mariano Piccoli (Lampre) and Jan Bratkowski (Cage). The 28 year old now has nine wins this season, certainly his best season as a professional.

Today's stage was 10 laps of a 16.2 kilometre circuit around Fucecchio-Ponte A Capiano, and was well controlled by Fassa Bortolo who kept things together for another mass sprint. They had confidence in Petacchi, who is also wearing the race leader's jersey, and he did not disappoint, taking the victory and increasing the team's total to 18 wins this season.

With two stages to go, the question remains whether Petacchi can keep winning or if he will finally relinquish his jersey on tomorrow's stage from Luca to San Salvatore.
