The 19-year-old beat the pre-race faovourite Lori-Ann Muenzer (Canada) by just under half a second in the 500m time-trial. Moments earlier, the crowd were on their feet willing Jules Paulding (England) to the top of the leader board with 35.595 seconds, with only Muenzer and Meares to go.
