By Gerry McManus, cyclingnews.com correspondent
Kerrie Meares snatched gold in the Manchester velodrome on Sunday July 27th.
The 19-year-old beat the pre-race faovourite Lori-Ann Muenzer (Canada) by just
under half a second in the 500m time-trial. Moments earlier, the crowd were
on their feet willing Jules Paulding (England) to the top of the leader board
with 35.595 seconds, with only Muenzer and Meares to go. Meares went top and
Muenzer managed to take the bronze.
