Angelo Ylia has claimed his first win for the season at this week's road race held at Loxton. A mild east northeasterly wind made for perfect racing conditions over the 45km race with 20 riders eager to chase down their rivals.

Lawton started off limit, 30 minutes from the scratch bunch of Hamish MacKirdy, Lee Stevens and Craig Ward. Megan Taylor started three minutes behind Lawton, but unfortunately was forced to withdraw after puncturing in the first few kilometres, followed by Angelo Ylia and John Eshman at the seven-minute mark.

Peter Weston, Michael Anderson and Glen O'Brien had to wait a further nine minutes before being pursued three minutes later by the bunch of Bob Pankhurst, Marcus Whitting, Ruth Strout and Peter Weston. Amanda Steele and Lara MacKirdy were to follow 21 minutes behind Lawton but only three minutes ahead of Josh Steele and Chris Stevens. Chopping Block riders Angus Boase and Mick Gray were hoping to keep the scratch bunch at bay with their four-minute buffer by gaining strength in numbers.

Angelo Ylia and John Eshman made considerable time in the opening lap, making up five-minutes from their 'off-limit' counter part Gordon Lawton. Whitting, Strout and Weston powered ahead of the remaining riders catching the 16-minute bunch, digging deep to try and hold off the chasing riders. There were two major bunches left in the race, Chris Stevens lead the first across the line to complete the opening 22km followed by the 'freight train' of MacKirdy, Stevens, Ward, Boase and Gray.

Although Ylia and Eshman were two lone riders for the 45km race, their efforts to keep the remaining field at bay were successful as they crossed in first and second place. Taking out third and fastest time was Hamish MacKirdy with an average of 39.7km/hr.
