Peel Cycling Club

Criterium & Midweek time trial series, Peel, WA, December 6 & 10

The Peel Cycling Clubs midweek Time Trial Series is coming to a close with Joe Cox consolidating his position as overall leader in the competition. Tony Van Merwyk (33pts) produced his best ride of the series breaking the 30min barrier and gaining maximum points in Race 9. Points leader Joe Cox (67pts) was just outside his best performance in blustery conditions. Phil Diesel (57pts) continues to hold second position while Mark Roberts (41pts) with Ron Macarthur (41pts), will be pushing themselves to claim outright third in the final race. The final leg will also see Steve Ware (33pts), Phil Edwards (28pts) and Peter Moyses (27pts) wanting to improve on their best times in the series.

A small field contested the Criterium event at Jandakot last Sunday. Sam Strk in his first outing with the club was the destroyer setting a high pace and after 15 minutes attacked to leave the pack in his wake. Strk lapped all but Loly to eventually cruise over the line in ‘A’ grade, keeping a determined Raymond Loly at bay by some 36 seconds. Paul Slocombe secured third place leading in Andy Bennett who had his first stint at the senior level. Andrew Crack was pleased to complete an A- grade event after a 12 month break.

In ‘B’ Grade a return to form for Mitchell Horwood had the youngster record his first win in the Summer Series. Second was Phil Edwards who is gradually getting the miles in his legs and Ted Thomas held in the bunch to ride to a creditable third place in his very first outing. Tony Van Merwyk lead in Jack Iveson to take fourth.

In the Criterium Rider of the Year award Raymond Loly at 41points leads Phil Edwards and Andy Bennett by 2 points.

The next Criterium event is a Coodenup on Sunday 17th December concluding with a club barbeque, all members most welcome to enjoy the feast of a renowned international chef.
