Peel Classic Handicap, Casuarina August 27, 2006

Peel Rider Eric Cox took line honours in the Peel Classic Road Race last weekend. The Peel Classic Handicap was hosted by the Peel Cycling Club and the West Coast Masters Club and covered 79kms of semi rural roads around Casuarina.

In near perfect conditions 60 riders contested the Handicap event and as expected the competition was fierce.

Cox’s group, off 2mins, included an in-form Dave Berglund, with Phil Diesel, Bryan Williams and Gary Collet. Several riders found the tempo too tough and withdrew but the group lead by Cox reeled in the front markers with 5km remaining. However it all came down to a bunch sprint to the line, with Cox leading the way, Berglund held off Diesel with Williams fourth.

Peel Club members filled the top 3 placing’s with Cox taking the double, winning the fastest time award in the handicap race. Other prize winners were Paul Hearne, Gary Collet, Graham Riley, Gary Oplaat, Dave Townson and Gary Boterhaven.
