Broadford - Seymour Cycling Club

Seymour, Victoria, September 10, 2005

Racing on Saturday started in pleasant condition considering the weather forecast. 21 Riders faced the starter for the 50km group handicap over the Seymour/Mangalore/GV Highway service road/Avenel circuit.

At the halfway point the 12 minute and 8 minute groups had combined and were riding a fast pace to hold of the chasers. When going over the Mangalore hill this group was caught by the 5 minute 30 second bunch which had the effect of losing some of that group.

Shortly after the Mangalore Hotel the combined scratch and 2 minute 30 second bunch hit the lead and continued to force the pace which lost some more of the weaker riders. On the approach to the hill over the railway line with about 4km to the finish Peter Jenkins attacked and soon gained a handy advantage which was closed down by other riders.

With about 2km to go scratch rider Carl Simmons launched a vicious attack which seemed to have enough momentum to succeed; but Carl was caught in the shadows of the post by the fast finishing Ron Brugess, followed closely by Jeff Hibberd, with Alan Adams third, followed by Kevin Simmons, Kevin Bartlett, Peter Jenkins, Carl Simmons, Glenn Christensen, Warren Osborne and John Burgess rounding out the top 10.

Racing for Saturday 17th September will be from Tallarook starting at 2pm.
