A massive performance once again from Chris Jongewaard, this time accompanied by fellow mountain bike rider Shaun Lewis and Darren O'Grady. These riders broke away in the second lap of the race and for some strange reason the bunch let them go. With almost thirty riders chasing this breakaway, they could not hold the pace and the break went further up the road. At the half way point the break did not look like getting caught but there was a reaction from some of the main players back in the bunch that went on the attack.

Eight riders, including Nick Wood, Steve Cunningham, Michael McGee and Chris Luxton fought hard to bridge the gap but all too late. O'Grady could not hold the pace of Jongewaard with two laps to go and went back to the small group of chasers as Jongewaard and Lewis lapped the main field. Jongewaard put the hammer down even further in the final lap riding away from an exhausted Lewis in the finishing straight to easily take the win over Lewis. In another superb bunch sprint Wood easily blew his opposition away to take third place over Mat Rex and Peter Meuller after spending a lot of time on the front of the chase trying to bring the break back.

The superb Team O'Grady junior rider Reuben Menaud-Young had another fantastic race to take out B Grade in a solo win. Menaud-Young will be the first junior rider to make the elite A Grade field this season making his debut race at Whitmore Square this Sunday. Nick Underwood just managed to hold off the bunch to take second, with Damon Stefani riding for the Australian Defence Forces winning the bunch sprint for third.

Racing this Sunday for A to E Grades will start at 8.45am at Whitmore Square in the heart of the City of Adelaide. Consistency points will be added to the Tuesday evening criterium series.
