Computer gets the win and the Series lead

After ten weeks of trying in the Trek Bikes Summer Series, the Eastern Suburbs A grade duo of Stuart Dangerfield and Paul Rowney finally got team mate Stewart 'Computer' Campbell across the line for a well deserved win, when he outsprinted his main rival for the series first prize of a Trek Madone 5.9 frame, Anthony Spurgeon (Colnago Caravello). It was the first time Computer has beaten the local King of Heffron in the series and he now takes a handy, but not unbeatable five point lead into the last two races.
Despite a string of DNF's in recent weeks, Spurge is still very much in the race for the $3,700 first prize as he is the only rider with enough points to overtake Computer, however, he will have to make sure his Colnago - Caravello teammates Jose Rodriguez, Ben Isaksen and Peter McDonald execute a better lead out than the one they tried last night.
In the Sprint King competition, Liam Kelly (Randwick Botany/FRF Couriers) shrugged off the after effects of jetlag and the Taipei Bike Show to extend his lead for the pink jersey. He also picked up third place overall last night, which eased him into fourth place in the Series. In the C grade series another Randwick Botany rider, Chris Reynolds, hit the top of the leaderboard with his fourth win in five weeks.
After the participation of some high quality pro and international riders in recent weeks, the field was back to club standard which almost enabled C grade to stay away for an overall win, but fortunately for A grade, the MG Xpower powerhouses of Troy Glennan and Shaun Higgerson, supported by Dangerfield, McDonald and Rodriguez, had B grade caught with seven laps to go and then C grade caught just before the bell.
The summer north easterlies which have been blowing all series once again had everyone in the gutter which meant it was only the big motors of A grade who where there at the end to contest the gallop. Depsite an early move from Colnago-Caravello it was Dangerfield and Rowney, also brushing aside Taipei jetlag, who wound it up for Computer. A 'nervous' move from one of the Easts riders checked Spurge momentarily and he never quite got the chance to kick again to come over Computer, who crossed the line a clear bike length in front.
Robbie Cater had a strong finish for fourth and Shaun Higgerson capped off yet another solid night's racing to take home the envelope for fifth. In the battle for B grade, nationally ranked junior track rider Luke Cridland was too strong for John Kenny.
