Jewell shines on the day
Mark Jewell outsprinted a tight field to take line honours at last Sunday's Illawarra Cycle Club monthly handicap race. Hinchinbrook rider Graham Rutter held on to second while David McMaster pipped Peter Jones on the line for third.
Gusty conditions made handicapping difficult as the fitter back-markers easily caught the middle bunches early in the race.
The limit group of Emma Ringer, Lou Jonceski and new rider 14 year-old Thomas Griffiths rode very well to hold onto their lead until 200 metres from the finish, where they were ridden down by the fast chasing bunsh. In the windy conditions, the three limit riders stayed close together and shared the work well.
Next week's race is a feature race with group 3 marshalling.
