SDVLCC Milang 150th Invitational Criterium

May 23, 2004

By Barry Timmins

Southern Veteran club members moved to the south this weekend with the Milang 150th Anniversary Invitational Criterium. The event was run as a graded scratch with five divisions over a 900 metre course around the small picturesque township. Start and finish was on the caravan park straight with good views for spectators around the short loop. A short climb and some difficult corners made the going tough for some and although the weather threatened it remained fine throughout the event but winds added to the riders challenges.

A grade was a victory to John Giles who claimed his first win for 2004 and his third major result for the year. Paul Bell moved to three major results in taking a well earned second. In B grade an in form Andrew Coombe continues to impress taking his first win for 2004 and his second major result this month. Coombe performed exceptionally in 2003 taking ten major results and looks to be back on track for more wins on this performance. Second went to the consistent Bob Seymour who also had a very impressive 2003. Gary Selth another unfailing performer this year took third. Bernie Szantyr showed his class in C grade to claim his second victory and fourth major for the year. He led leading club rider Gavin McMahon to the line with contender Geoff Bate taking third. Carolyn Salisbury returned to the fold to take a meritorious win in D grade from a hard working new rider Neal Teasdale with the tenacious Angela Fleming taking third. Robert Freak another new rider took E grade from veteran club member Tom Trowbridge who edged out Clem Kelly in the sprint.
