Jones does it again

Peter Jones continued on his winning ways by taking out the A grade 37.5km scratch race last Sunday. With a reputation as a crack sprinter he took the rest of the bunch by surprise by attacking 1.5km before the finish. Dylan Forbes was the only rider able to go with him but he couldn't hold the rampaging Jones and crossed the line seven seconds adrift for second place.

Third place went to Graham Rutter after another strong performance. Tim Morris, after a marriage induced break, rode strongly as did Adam Rourke.

The other riders to take the honours on the day were Daniel Silveri in A1 grade, Adrian White in B grade and Jenny Davis in C grade.

A1 grade was quite quick with several riders willing to put a big effort in. Neil Midgley, Brian Joyce, Jeff Gray and Lionel Covington all contributed strongly to the race. In an all up sprint it was Silveri from Midgley and Tortorici.

The B grade race had sixteen riders. With such a large bunch there were more than a few willing to keep the pace high and try and get away. But every attempt was closed down quickly buy the vigilant bunch.

Peter Evans, Tim Devlin, Jason Johnson and Phil Jones were possibly the stand out riders on the day. The decisive move came from Adrian White and Evans when they attacked on the final climb up Hooker hill on the way to the finish. They worked well together and were able to build up a 28 lead on the chasers by the finish line.

White was too quick for Evans with Craig Dinning crossing the line for third.

Jenny Davis broke through for her first win in the C grade event. She easily accounted for her husband Mark in the sprint for the line. Newcomer Brian Nobbs crossed the line for third.

Next week's race is the annual Tour de Huntley. The race consists of a 4km time trial, 18km pointscore and 18km scratch race. Group 9 is to marshal but additional marshals are required, anyone who is able to help please contact Garry on 42715533.
