Tour de Grandview

Grandview, Ohio, June 25, 2006

Under perfect weather conditions the Grandview Criterium, day two and final day of the Tour de Grandview, to place. Unfortunately my duties as race director kept me from being able to follow the racing action as close as I would have liked. In short the women's' event was a battle to see who was the strongest rider as individuals attacked the hill trying to gain time. With no groups working well together it was once again Catherine Powers who took it upon herself to take the win.

Her solo victory made it two in a row for the strong Arron's team. Shannon Hutchison-Krupat of Aaron's took second and Brenda Lyons from Victory Brewing rounded out the top three.

The Pro Men's race played similar to the women's race with small groups attacking but none willing to work together well enough to keep the lead. Paul Martin of Texas Roadhouse attacked solo and was able to stretch his lead to 40 seconds over a disorganized chase group. With the field not willing or unable to bring Martin back the race for second place shaped up to a field sprint. Jonathan Parrish (unattached) and Kirk Albers (Jelly Belly) rounded out the top three.
