Results and Reports from the USAPromoters wishing to submit results should send them to cyclingnews Tour de GrandviewGrandview, Ohio, June 24, 2006Grandview Heights, Ohio has several things that make it the perfect cycling community. First and formost is an outstanding community that supports the cycling event and allows the cycling committee to have a course that travels from one side of the city to the other. This is the only race that I know of in America that actually travels from one end of a city to the other. The second is the perfect coffe shop. The cyclists seem to sence Stauf's Coffee shop the second they pull into town. Among many other asseets, Grandview has two courses to challenge even the best in the sport. The Tour de Grandview offers racers a 3 mile figure eight course with two climbs per lap. The women's race was very animated with attacts coming from several teams in the first laps of the 35 mile event. When Catherine Powers (Aaron's) attacked, the field let her dangle off the front. The concensus was the pace and tough race course would bring her back. Unfortunately for the field, Catherine had other plans. With several strong efforts up the back side climb, Powers was able to extend her lead and soon the old adage "out of sight out of mind" seemed to take hold of the main field. Several attacks from the Victory Brewing team and Vitamin Cottage were unsuccessful. With one lap to go the race was now for second place as the impressive Powers was able to maintain her lead. Powers' teammates were able to take advantage of the hard work of the other teams and sprinted to second and third place with Victory Brewings Brenda Lyons taking fourth and Renee Eastman from Vitamin Cottage rounding out the top five. The men's Pro-1-2 50 mile race was equally demanding as the field worked to sort out who was going to control the pace and tactics. Soon a break containing members from all the strong teams formed and gained time on the main field. It was clear the majority of this field was content to see the break succeed. Texas Road House and Abercrombie & Fitch seemed to have the strong men in the break but it was Califorinain Billy Innes from Six Fifty Racing taking the sprint by half a bike length from a hard-charging Paul Martin (Texas Road House) and Marco Aledia (Amercrombrie & Fitch).
