Results and Reports from AustraliaPromoters wishing to submit results should send them to Cyclingnews Riverland Cycling ClubMonash, South Australia, January 17, 2006Grey wins sprint battleClub stalwart Mick Grey held off a determined Greg Hatcher to win Tuesday's Riverland Cycling Club criterium meet at Monash. With temperatures still in the high thirties at race start the possibility of riders surging and attacking was erased as riders would work together to conserve energy for the home straight final sprint. Grey, a multiple Club Champion with the Riverland Cycling Club, produced a controlled ride to win B-grade in a sprint to the line against Hatcher and Mark Kershaw who finished second and third respectively. Angus Boase the other B-grade rider surprisingly didn't have enough energy left to work the sprint and settled for fourth. The A-grade race didn't produce the high speeds as seen in previous weeks but it didn't prevent riders from pushing for line honours. Current club champion Lee Stevens rode solidly for a good win which continued his good form, but, was pushed to the line by the ever improving Nigel Willoughby. Josh Steele followed soon after in third place. A large and highly competitive C-grade race saw Brenton Woon win in his first
race for 2005/2006, outsprinting Mark Moore (2nd), also in his first criterium
race for the season, and Peter Weston (3rd). Ruth Strout followed through in
fourth and in the coming weeks should be looking to breakthrough for a win as
she consistently sees herself as a pacesetter in the group. The Riverland Cycling Club's criterium series continues next Tuesday at Monash with racing to start at 6:30pm. All riders are invited to attend.
