Osborne wins Pitstop Handicap

Warren Osborne won the annual Pitstop Handicap held in Yea on Sunday after a solo ride to take victory by 3 mins from a fast finishing scratch bunch.

The 40km race sponsored by Ted Kirby commenced in thick fog which meant all riders were geared up for the cold. The race started on the Murrindindi road exit approx 8km south of Yea on the Yarra Glen Road, and went on a loop to where the road rejoins the Yarra Glen Road. Several riders got dropped from the combined scratch and 2nd scratch bunches on the return climb which ensured a very fast chase back to the finish. John Burgess was trying valiantly to hold on to his 2nd placing but was caught by a flying scratch group meters from the finish. Alan Adams was second and fastest followed by Brett Loney with Burgess in 4th place.

The weather in Yea at the finish was in brilliant sunshine

Thanks go to Teddles for sponsoring the race and the after race pizzas and chips at Socs and Hiedi’s Pitstop Café.

Ron Burgess and Jeff Hibberd contested the Rod Vernon Memorial 112km road race at Bendigo on Saturday with Hibberd finishing 10th and Burgess close behind in a finishing bunch of approx 70 riders. Silas Fisher rode the under17 men 35km event but finished out of a place.

Racing for Saturday 18th August is from Glenaroua Fire Station at 2pm
