A strong westerly wind made the riders work hard and intermittent showers added to the excitement as the handicapped riders raced to catch their competitors in front. Brett Carpenter, Angelo Ylia and Bob Pankhurst caught Gordon Lawton on the final turn for home and stayed away from the rest of the field until the final stages. Carpenter made a break from his grouping and was able to maintain his lead into the strong head wind. Kel Elleway and Josh Steele started five minutes in front of the scratch group of Hamish MacKirdy and Lee Stevens, and were able to stay away for the whole race, catching all riders besides the strong finishing Carpenter who claimed the win. Peter Weston and Ruth Strout rode strongly together but were unable to catch the other groups, while MacKirdy and Stevens were unable to make up enough ground to catch the leaders, with MacKirdy recording the fastest time for the day and fourth place. The next race will be start at the Glossop Pony Club at 9:30am on Sunday. There
will be a weekly social ride starting at 8:30am leaving from the Redgum Cafe
in Berri on Saturday morning also. Results1 Brett Carpenter 2 Kel Elleway 3 Josh Steele 4 Hamish MacKirdy 5 Angelo Ylia 6 Lee Stevens 7 Bob Pankhurst 8 Gordon Lawton 9 Peter Weston 10 Ruth Strout Local results 2004 |
