Amanda Steele made an excellent start, pulling away from her grouping with John Eshman and Ruth Strout before the first hill and catching Gordon Lawton and Angelo Ylia shortly after the hot-dog turn on the 46km course. Angus Boase, Kel Elleway and Lee Stevens hit 50km/hr in their chase from scratch, however, Stevens dropped off with a flat tyre after the second grid which hindered their effort. It was Steele's day however, taking the chequered flag and recording a PB for the course. Elleway pulled away from Boase on the final straight to claim the fastest time honours at 36km/hr. Next weekend will see a record number of local female competitors take part in the Tour of the Riverland with up to 200 people expected to take part in the two-day event. $14,000 in cash and prizes is up for grabs and trophies will be contested between local club riders also.
