Broadford/Seymour Cycling Club

Broadford, Victoria, June 25, 2005

The Club conducted a 60km handicap event starting and finishing at Burgess Signs, after racing the Avenel, Mangalore Airport Road course - 24 riders competed.

John Harland, Murray Thompson and Kevin Swan led the field off in sunny winter weather. This trio led to the Mangalore cutting hill with 15km to race. The handicap groups were coming together at this stage and Carl Simmons, Ron Burgess riding from scratch, having caught Malcolm Hill, Shayne Kirby, Andy Garrett and Alan Adams were closing quickly and reached the leaders at Mangalore.

The peloton speed was high as this combined group of 22 riders positioned for a sprint finish. Explosive speed from Malcolm Hill at the 200m mark left Alan Adams and Jeff Hibberd to take second and third placings from Carl Simmons in fourth place, recording a fastest time of 1 hour 23 minutes for the 60km.

Steve Ditullio and Peter Jenkins completed the top six. Wayne Klauss, Glen Christensen, Rob Ekberg and Silas Fisher were close to the major placings after strong road rides from their handicaps.

Racing next Saturday (2/7) is from Burgess Signs at 2pm.
