Murray Thompson and John Harland led the field off in cold wintery conditions. Darryl O'Keefe, Bob Ward and Mick Mulquiney chased the leading pair down in the second lap and led with 18km to race. Scratch and second scratch riders, Ron Burgess, Andy Garrett, Duncan Arendse, Steve Watson and Jeff Hibberd caught the middle groups on Schoolhouse Hill with 7km to race, but Ward and O'Keefe were riding a great race in front and held off this strong chasing group. This pair sprinted for line honors with O'Keefe recording his second club win from his veteran co-marker, Bob Ward. Andy Garrett outsprinted the chasing group to finish third and record fastest time of 73minutes 28seconds for the 39km trip,a top performance. Ron Burgess was fourth with Jeff Hibberd and Glen Christensen completing the top six. Steve Watson, John Burgess and Peter Jenkins also rode strongly to contest the finish. Local results 2004 |
