Riders had to work in their handicapped groupings to maintain a steady speed on the 40km course along Queen Elizabeth Drive, where there was no shelter from the winds blowing across Lake Bonney. Several riders ran into difficulty with punctured tyres and mechanical failures; however, the scratch grouping of Lee Stevens, Kel Elleway and Angus Boase caught the rest of the field at the three-quarter mark, with some riders managing to stay on their tail. A furious dash for the line saw Stevens narrowly claim first place ahead of Elleway, Boase and Grey as well as the fastest time award with a 35.5km/hr average. The next race will be held on Sunday starting at 9:30am at Winkie with substantial prizemoney on offer and all road riders welcome. For more details visit http://www.riverlandcyclingclub.com.
