The Ted Kirby-sponsored event was raced Sunday on a 42km out and back course at Murrindindi, with 20 riders contesting the event in cold, windy, but dry weather.
David Bunton and Carl Simmons conceded the limit riders, Mick Mulquiney, Murray Thompson and Kevin Swan to a 20 minutes start.
On the outward leg, the middle handicap groups fell apart, leaving Ron Burgess from 3 min, Silas Fisher and Warren Osborne from 7 min, John Burgess from 10 minutes and Brett Loney and Bob Ward from 14 minutes in the front half of the race at the turn.
Carl Simmons had powered over the hill climb on the outward leg to be just 6 minutes down on the leaders, Ward and Loney, at the turn.
Without numbers, John Burgess and Silas Fisher couldn't chase down the leading pair, and were caught by Simmons with 5km to race.
Simmons in full flight with Silas Fisher in tow raced past Loney in the final 500m to record an outstanding win and take the 'Ted Kirby' first and fastest trophies. Carl's time for the 42km was 1:04:20.
Brett Loney certainly deserved his placing (second) as did Silas Fisher, who took third. John Burgess was just off the pace in fourth, ahead of Bob Ward, Warren Osborne, Ron Burgess, Kevin Bartlett, Glen Jacobs and Mick Mulquiney.
