The 'Gold' of Hibberd, Kevin Simmons, Ditullio, Bartlett, Bender, Tubbs and Mulquiney scorched the course early and had a 90-second lead at the Avenel check point from Burgess' 'Green', with Kirby's 'Blue' two minutes further back. With a tailwind and slower riders being able to drop off for the final 20km, the speed of all teams lifted. Both trailing teams took time off the leader, with the Gold team hanging on to win the event by just five seconds with a time of 1:17:13 from Ron Burgess's 'Green' team. The Club races next Sunday (10/7) at Murrindindi for the Ted Kirby Trophy. This event starts at 10pm from the Murrindindi turnoff on the Yea-Yarra Glen road.
