Gordon Lawton, Bob Pankhurst and Angelo Ylia rode with a reduced lap handicap from limit and set a strong speed for the rest of the field to wear down. Lara MacKirdy, Amanda and Josh Steele rode a consistent and well-paced race around the 10km circuit to catch Peter Weston, Ruth Strout and Mark Moore in the third lap. Josh Steele caught the bunch by surprise with a surge into the wind to give himself a clear lead. Hamish MacKirdy and Kel Elleway caught the main bunch within 8km of the finish line, raising the tempo and catching the runaway Josh Steele before the final bend. Lawton, Pankhurst and Ylia crossed the line with less than a minute to spare before the family double act of Lara and Hamish MacKirdy sprinted across the line ahead of Steele. Lawton claimed his third win of the season with Hamish MacKirdy claiming the fastest time honours with a 36.5km/hr average over 50km. Congratulations to Ruth and Hamish on their nominations for the Riverland Sportsperson of the Year Award, and also to Hamish for competing in the prestigious Burra Classic on Saturday. The next race will be held at Loveday on Sunday starting at 9:30am. There will be a weekly social ride starting at 8:30am leaving from the Redgum Cafe in Berri on Saturday morning also.
