In cold and blustery conditions, riders that were grouped together still struggled to maintain a steady speed around the 22km course. The grouping of Lara MacKirdy, Mark Moore, Ruth Strout and Peter Weston shared the workload evenly to make up considerable time on other competitors on the first loop. They were able to catch Bob Pankhurst, Angelo Ylia and Gordon Lawton halfway through the second lap, with Pankhurst making a valiant effort to hold onto the back of the bunch. Kel Elleway rode a hard solo race to merge with and then lead the main group for several kilometres before sprinting home for victory, just ahead of Lara MacKirdy and Strout. Hamish MacKirdy claimed the fastest time honours and fifth place with a 35km/hr average. The next road race will be held at Winkie starting at 9:30am on Sunday. There will be a weekly social ride starting at 8:30am leaving from the Redgum Cafe in Berri on Saturday morning also.
