On an undulating and slightly inclining first stretch, riders stuck together in their handicapped groups, with Hamish MacKirdy riding from scratch and solo. Kel Elleway and Lee Stevens caught Lara MacKirdy and Amanda Steele with 20km to go and the group worked in unison until a surge left MacKirdy off the pace. Peter Weston and John Eshman caught Angelo Ylia but proved to be too strong, with Ylia dropping off before the main group caught them. Elleway, Stevens and Steele cruised home at speeds sometimes exceeding 45km/hr before Elleway took out the sprint and fastest time honours with a 37.5km/hr average. The next race will be held at Loveday at 9:30am Sunday May 1. Congratulations to Hamish MacKirdy for being a part of the record-breaking and winning team in the long-distance course at the Loxton Triathlon (posting a 41.5km/hr average), and congratulations also to Lara MacKirdy for an excellent performance (34km/hr average) in her cycle leg in the Doctor's team. Ruth Strout, who completed both courses solo posted a win for her age group which is a fantastic achievement. Good luck to Peter Weston, who competes in a half-marathon next weekend also.
